Compression and Optimization
Compression and Optimization
Furthermore, in terms of Compression and Optimization, it easy to example in terms of knowing what is Lossy and Lossless that will be explain below.
What is Lossy?
The definition of lossy is where the image or graphic that been compressed. Which means the image format are been compressed from the original quality that makes the graphic much smaller size. Example one of image original size is 3MB but because of Lossy Format it compress into 180kB. This is because of to store more image or more graphic inside small amount of storage example in mobile phone, if lots of lossless format the storage will easily full and less people will download the graphic. As a result, just imagine in creating a game, if most of the graphic are lossless it will shows that the storage of the game in terms of graphic will take lots of it and cause the game to be much bigger for the audience to play. The impact of this can cause the image is blurry due to it compress and reduce the size from the original one but only take only small amount of storage. For example Fig.13 below shows the lossy image in video game. Where can be seen below the image much blur.
Lossless
While, the another type of format is different. The definition of Lossless is where the images original quality keep inside within the image data and not loss single data form the original size. Such as 2MB the size, it will be the same amount of size from the original one. This is usually use in a big project that create high quality of images that really use lossless for the image. Therefore, the reason why mostly game have large amount of storage can also be the reason is because of the quality and the size of the image due to using the lossless. While for the Lossless some of the format like PNG it compression but it also lossless, therefore the impact it can still keep the high quality even though its compress but will cause lot of storage. For example Fig.14 below shows the lossless image in video game. Where can be see much clear and much more quality rather than lossy above.
